What is the difference between Vedic astrology and normal astrology?

Vedic astrology and astrology are two different methods and concepts of astrology. Each method brings a unique history of its own.

Since the methods and interpretations are different, it is essential to know about them in depth.

Whether you decide to learn vedic astrology online or normal astrology, it is important to acquire adequate information.

The beginning

Well, the origins of Vedic astrology are traced back to ancient India. This science was called Jyotish earlier. The earliest references are found in the Vedas, which are the sacred texts of the Sanatan Dharma. The approximate period is as far as 5000 years or more.

In earlier times and even in modern time, Vedic astrology was traditionally used to determine good times for important events like marriage.

This is also used to know about the path of life, the difficult and good times, and to give suggestions on personal and spiritual matters.

The origins of normal astrology are the ancient civilizations of Rome and Greece. The approximate period is around 2500 years or more. The main person who is given credit for the development of normal astrology is the Greek philosopher Ptolemy. He laid the foundation in the second century CE. It has been traditionally used for predicting future events and understanding the characteristics and nature of a person.

Zodiac signs

The use of the zodiac system is different in both these systems.  When you join any of the vedic astrology courses, you will understand that this method uses the sidereal zodiac system, that is the fixed stars in the sky.

This means that the positions of the stars and planets in the birth chart are calculated on the basis of their position relative to the fixed stars.

The sidereal zodiac is divided into 27 equal parts called nakshatra or lunar mansion. Each nakshatra is associated with specific qualities and characteristics. You will know about it in detail in your vedic astrology online course.

In modern astrology, the tropical zodiac is used, which is based on the position of the sun with reference to the earth.

This means that the positions of the stars and planets in the birth chart of a person are calculated on the basis of their position with respect to the sun.

The tropical zodiac is divided into 12 equal parts, called signs. Each sign is associated with specific qualities and characteristics.

Calculations

The method of calculation is different in these two methods.

In Vedic astrology, the positions of the planets are calculated based on the birth date, time, and location.

The birth chart is called kundali and it is divided into 12 houses. Each house of the Kundali denotes a specific area of life, like health, career and relationships etc.

The placement of the planets in these houses gives correct insights into the personality, nature, strengths, and weaknesses of the person. It also gives a broad sketch of life events.

Vedic astrology classes online give a deep understanding of each house and its significance. Also, there is a difference in the interpretation of charts in these two systems.
